CDCP Dental Care at Altavia

At AltaVia Dental, we believe quality dental care should feel clear, comfortable and accessible. We are pleased to welcome patients covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).

If you are enrolled in the CDCP, our team can help you understand your coverage, review your treatment options and provide an estimate of any expected out-of-pocket costs before treatment whenever possible.

Yes. AltaVia Dental accepts patients covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

Whether you are looking for routine preventive care, have a dental concern or are ready to establish care with a new dental team, we would be happy to welcome you.

The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal program designed to help make dental care more affordable for eligible Canadian residents who do not have access to private dental insurance.

Depending on your individual eligibility and treatment needs, the CDCP may help cover services such as:

  • Dental examinations
  • X-rays
  • Dental cleanings and preventive care
  • Fluoride treatments and sealants
  • Fillings
  • Root canal treatment
  • Gum and periodontal treatment
  • Tooth extractions and other oral surgery
  • Dentures and partial dentures
  • Certain crowns and major restorative procedures
  • Certain sedation services

Some services have frequency limitations or require preauthorization from the CDCP before treatment can begin.

To qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, you generally must:

  • Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
  • Have filed your Canadian tax return for the previous year
  • Have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000
  • Not have access to private dental insurance or coverage

Eligibility is determined by the Government of Canada and must be confirmed periodically.

The amount the CDCP pays depends partly on your adjusted family net income.

Adjusted Family Net Income CDCP Portion of Fees Patient Co-Payment
Under $70,000 100% 0%
$70,000–$79,999 60% 40%
$80,000–$89,999 40% 60%

It is important to understand that 100% CDCP coverage does not necessarily mean there will be no cost to the patient.

The CDCP reimburses according to its own established fee schedule, which may be different from the fees charged by a dental practice. Patients may therefore be responsible for:

  • Their applicable CDCP co-payment
  • Any difference between the CDCP-established fee and the dental office fee
  • Treatments or services that are not covered by the CDCP

Our AltaVia team will do our best to explain expected costs before treatment so there are as few surprises as possible.

No. The CDCP covers a wide range of dental services, but coverage depends on the type of treatment, your individual eligibility, CDCP frequency limitations and, in some cases, clinical criteria.

Some treatments require preauthorization, meaning the dentist must submit information to the CDCP and receive approval before the treatment is eligible for coverage.

Examples of treatments that may require preauthorization include certain:

  • Dentures and partial dentures
  • Root canal re-treatments
  • Periodontal treatments
  • Oral surgery procedures
  • Sedation or anesthesia services

Approval is determined by the CDCP and is not guaranteed.

Yes. Being enrolled in the Canadian Dental Care Plan does not prevent you from choosing a new dental provider.

If you are currently receiving care elsewhere and would like to become an AltaVia patient, our team can help make the transition as seamless as possible.

Applications for the current CDCP benefit period are open to eligible Canadians.

Applications and eligibility are managed by the Government of Canada, while Sun Life administers CDCP dental benefits and claims. Before booking treatment, make sure you have received confirmation of your coverage and know your official coverage start date. Dental treatment completed before your effective coverage date is generally not eligible for reimbursement.

For the most current eligibility requirements, application information and program updates, please visit the Government of Canada’s official Canadian Dental Care Plan website.

We would be happy to welcome you to AltaVia.
