Children's Dentistry
Helping Little Smiles Feel at Home
A child's early dental experiences can shape how they feel about dentistry for years to come.
At AltaVia Dental, we want children to feel comfortable, encouraged and proud of taking care of their smiles. Our approach is gentle, age-appropriate and never rushed. We take the time to explain what we’re doing, help children become familiar with the dental environment and build trust one visit at a time.
Sometimes the greatest success of an early dental visit is simply leaving with a smile and feeling excited to come back.
Your Child’s First Dental Visit
We recommend introducing your child to the dentist early, ideally around the time their first teeth begin to appear.
These early visits give us an opportunity to monitor development, answer questions and help establish healthy habits from the beginning.
During your child’s visit, we may talk with you about:
- Brushing and toothpaste
- Nutrition and cavity prevention
- Pacifier or thumb-sucking habits
- Tooth and jaw development
- What to expect as new teeth arrive
Every child is different, so we meet them where they are. For some children, a first visit may include a complete examination. For others, it may simply mean sitting in the chair, meeting our team and becoming comfortable with their surroundings.
Our goal is to create a positive foundation for a lifetime of dental care.
Growing Healthy Smiles
As children grow, regular dental visits allow us to monitor their teeth and bite, identify concerns early and continue reinforcing healthy habits at home.
We use simple, positive language and an age-appropriate approach to help children understand what to expect and feel comfortable throughout their visit. And because going to the dentist should include a little fun, our younger patients can choose a small prize at the end of every visit.
Climb to a Healthy Smile
Healthy habits deserve to be celebrated.
Our younger patients can take part in the AltaVia Healthy Smile Mountain, collecting a mountain stamp after each cavity-free check-up and moving one step closer to the summit.
Base Camp → On the Trail → Almost There → Summit Reached
Four healthy check-ups. One completed mountain. A special Summit Prize.
When children reach the summit, they get to choose an extra-special reward to celebrate their accomplishment.
We keep track of their progress at AltaVia, so families never have to worry about remembering a card between appointments.
Most importantly, the Healthy Smile Mountain is about encouragement, not perfection. It’s a fun way to help children take pride in healthy habits and make preventive dental visits something they can look forward to.
Healthy habits. Happy visits. One step closer to the summit.
