Root Canal Treatments
Relief From Tooth Pain. Care Focused on Saving Your Natural Tooth
When the inside of a tooth becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause significant discomfort and may eventually threaten the tooth itself.
At AltaVia Dental, root canal treatment may be recommended to remove the source of infection, relieve pain, and preserve your natural tooth whenever possible.
We understand that hearing the words “root canal” can make some patients feel uneasy. Our approach is calm, thoughtful, and transparent. We will explain what we see, why treatment may be necessary, and what you can expect before we begin.
Inside every tooth is a soft area called the pulp, which contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue.
The pulp can become inflamed or infected because of:
- Deep tooth decay
- A cracked or fractured tooth
- Dental trauma or injury
- Repeated dental treatment on the same tooth
- Bacteria entering the inside of the tooth
During root canal treatment, the inflamed or infected tissue is carefully removed from inside the tooth. The canals are then cleaned, disinfected, shaped, and sealed to help protect the tooth from further infection.
The goal is to preserve the natural tooth rather than remove it.
Symptoms can vary, and sometimes an infected tooth causes very little discomfort. Common signs may include:
- Persistent or severe tooth pain
- Pain when biting or chewing
- Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold
- Swelling or tenderness around the tooth
- A pimple or swelling on the gums near the tooth
- Darkening or discolouration of a tooth
- A chipped, cracked, or damaged tooth
Tooth pain does not always mean that a root canal is needed. A dental examination and appropriate imaging help us determine the source of the problem and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
Whenever possible, we aim to preserve your natural teeth. However, there are situations where a tooth cannot be predictably restored.
If this is the case, we will discuss your options clearly with you. Tooth extraction may be recommended, followed by options to replace the missing tooth such as:
- A dental implant
- A dental bridge
- A partial denture
Our goal is never simply to recommend a procedure. We want you to understand your options and feel confident about the treatment you choose.
Tooth Pain Shouldn’t Be Ignored
Persistent tooth pain, swelling, or sensitivity can be signs that something is happening beneath the surface.
Early assessment may help relieve discomfort, prevent an infection from progressing, and give us the best opportunity to preserve your natural tooth.
At AltaVia Dental, we are here to help make the process feel clear, comfortable, and manageable from your first conversation through your follow-up care.
Elevated care, grounded in integrity.
