Oral Exams
A Thoughtful First Step Toward Better Oral Health
When you visit AltaVia Dental for the first time, your comprehensive oral exam gives us an opportunity to understand your dental history, assess your current oral health, and learn what matters most to you.
Rather than looking at one tooth or one concern in isolation, we take a broader view of your teeth, gums, bite, jaw, soft tissues, and overall oral health. Our goal is to create a clear baseline, identify concerns early, and develop a care plan that is personalized to you.
What to Expect at Your First Visit
Your first appointment may be more detailed than a routine dental exam because we are taking the time to get to know both you and your oral health history.
Depending on your individual needs, your comprehensive exam may include:
- A review of your medical and dental history
- Discussion of current medications, allergies, and health considerations
- Comprehensive dental X-rays or digital imaging when appropriate
- Examination of your teeth and existing dental work
- Assessment of your gums and periodontal health
- Evaluation of your bite and jaw
- Screening for tooth decay, cracks, wear, and other changes
- Assessment of gum recession or tooth mobility
- Examination of the soft tissues of your mouth
- An oral cancer screening
- Discussion of any pain, sensitivity, cosmetic concerns, or changes you have noticed
We may also discuss your previous dental experiences, concerns about treatment, and any goals you have for your smile.
First Impressions Matter
Because first impressions matter, new patients are also welcomed with a thoughtfully curated AltaVia welcome box—a small reflection of the care and hospitality we hope you feel throughout your visit.
