Tooth Extractions at Altavia Dental
Thoughtful Care When a Tooth Needs to Be Removed
At AltaVia Dental, preserving your natural teeth is always our priority whenever possible. Sometimes, however, a tooth may be too damaged, infected, or compromised to be predictably restored.
When extraction is the best option for your oral health, we take the time to explain why, review your alternatives, and help you understand what to expect before, during, and after treatment.
Our goal is to make the experience feel as comfortable, calm, and straightforward as possible.
A tooth may need to be removed for several reasons, including:
- Severe tooth decay
- Advanced gum disease
- A cracked or fractured tooth that cannot be restored
- Significant infection
- Dental trauma
- Crowding or orthodontic treatment needs
- Impacted or problematic wisdom teeth
Before recommending an extraction, your dentist will carefully assess the tooth and discuss whether there are reasonable options to preserve it.
If removal is recommended, we will explain the reason clearly and answer any questions you may have.
Before treatment begins, we will review the procedure with you and make sure you know what to expect.
Local anesthetic is used to numb the area and keep you comfortable during the extraction. The tooth is then carefully removed using techniques appropriate for your individual situation.
Some extractions are relatively straightforward, while others may be more complex depending on the position of the tooth, its roots, and the surrounding bone.
If your case would be better managed by a dental specialist, we will discuss that with you and arrange an appropriate referral.
Proper healing is an important part of treatment.
After your extraction, we will provide detailed aftercare instructions to help protect the area and support a smooth recovery.
Recommendations may include:
- Resting and limiting strenuous activity for a short period of time
- Using ice to help manage swelling
- Following instructions regarding brushing and cleaning around the area
- Eating softer foods while the site begins to heal
- Avoiding smoking, vaping, and drinking through straws during the initial healing period
- Using over-the-counter or prescribed medication as directed
- Contacting our office if you experience unexpected pain, swelling, or other concerns
We want you to feel supported after you leave our office, not simply sent home with a list of instructions. Our team is available if questions arise during your recovery.
